TRANS/POSED

One morning an artist wakes up in a new body and experiences a multitude of emotions, thoughts, and feelings.

In 2021 Grey Alexander took on the label of “non-binary” and that nebulous, vague, and persistent sense finally found words.

Since then the concept of gender and body has evolved for the artist, lingering in a dreamscape of “what if?”

These paintings explore the curiosity, confusion, trepidation and delight amid the dysphoria and euphoria of finding newness in oneself.

Here are posed anonymous fictional characters. Bright vivid colours ecstatic in their sublime softness. The casually positioned figures are indicative of a personal and intimate view. Within them a spectrum of high-key expressions; therein lies a movement of stillness and a vibrational lightness. The edges of a gradient speak to the extreme of gender exploration and of being and non-being.
